ISMPP Steering Committee Member

Executive Vice President, Global Publications Lead

This year marks the 18th Annual Meeting for the International Society of Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), held May 9-11, 2022, in Washington, DC. This represented the first in-person meeting since 2019 for over 595 attendees. The program committee developed a compelling agenda around the theme of Future-Ready Medical Communications, with industry experts across all fields of communication leading discussions on current and future issues, challenges, and innovation. The sessions were designed to be highly interactive through a diverse presentation schedule of TED-style talks, roundtable discussions, and parallel, small-group presentations. The purpose was to establish a dialogue on forward-thinking considerations for practice trends or publication enhancements that embrace the new communication ecosystem. During day 1, the dynamic speakers covered topics from diversity to decentralized trials, offering unique perspectives about their impact on medical communications. On day 2, OPEN Health's Jude D’Souza had a starring role on the main agenda with his ground-breaking presentation entitled “One small step for a congress, one giant leap for scientific presentations.” His presentation focused on the story of how one key European congress used the pandemic as the impetus to improve the quality of their delivery of scientific presentations. The meeting concluded on day 3 with pertinent information on the progress of Good Publication Practice guidelines - focusing on version 4.0, which will be published shortly. These topics, along with the importance of patient engagement, omnichannel, and the use of digital, are highlighted in this newsletter. We would like to acknowledge and thank the OPEN Health ISMPP team for their efforts at the Annual Meeting and for their contributions to this newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading the highlights from the Annual Meeting. Best regards, Liz
